There has been a great deal of discussion on the internet and in the media recently regarding the so called Apple ‘Location-gate’ saga. For those of you who managed to avoid it, or may have only read about it in the exceedingly under educated mainstream media the following events transpired.
The file, known as consolidated.db holds geolocation data collected from WiFi access points and cell-towers, and has been known about and probed by forensic experts since the retail launch of the iPhone 4 in June of 2010. Sean Morrissey and Alex Levinson published a book about iPhone forensics in December 2010, explaining this particular issue (amongst others).
